RAP payment calculator
Estimate your Repayment Assistance Plan monthly payment.
The Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) monthly payment is a percentage of your total AGI - a flat $10/month if AGI is $10,000 or less, then 1% to 10% of AGI as income rises - divided by 12, minus $50/month per dependent child, with a $10/month minimum. Enter your numbers below for an estimate. RAP also waives unpaid interest and matches up to $50/month of principal, with forgiveness after 360 payments. Estimate only, not advice.

Frequently asked questions
How is the RAP payment calculated?
RAP uses your total adjusted gross income (AGI). If AGI is $10,000 or less, the payment is a flat $10/month. Otherwise it is a percentage of AGI (1% for $10,001-$20,000, rising one point per $10,000 band up to 10% above $100,000), divided by 12, then reduced by $50/month per dependent child, with a $10/month minimum.
Does RAP use my spouse's income?
RAP is based on AGI from your federal tax return, so if you file jointly your spouse's income is included. Married filers may compare filing jointly vs separately - confirm the exact treatment for your situation with your servicer and studentaid.gov, since the final program rules are still being implemented.
When can I enroll in RAP?
RAP becomes available July 1, 2026. It is the only income-driven plan for borrowers whose first loan is on or after July 1, 2026, and existing borrowers can switch into it.
